DAO Design Philosophy
The design philosophy we embrace is more general and applies to all our designs, not just
the Nuffinga. And that is fusing Colin Chapman’s philosophy at Lotus - “Simplify, then add
lightness” and Minimalist design. Everything that is there, is there because it serves a
purpose. And everything looks the way it does because there is some thought given to
solving some problem. We also try to make everything aesthetically pleasing drawing
inspiration from nature and adopt an iterative design process where we learn from real world
experiences (testing, market feedback etc). Perfection is in the process.
PROJECT NUFFINGA
We wished there was something like a track-focussed FPVCycle Babytooth available on the
market that was 1S only. Imagine if we could have a fantastic handling race toothpick that
doesn’t break easily and offer a super economical platform to practise and race. Everything
gets cheaper as you go micro. Plus battery management is so simple with 1S. That’s why to
us, making the most of that 1 cell was a priority. Everyone else is going bigger with more
power. So this formed the basis of the design brief.
- Handling characteristics (can corner well at high throttle)
- Extremely light. Our goal was to make the lightest 3” swinging 1S toothpick that flies
with great precision - Durability. We didn’t wanna cut weight at the expense of durability. That would be
going too far. - Minimise resonance with design choices and filtering, spread out the modes of
resonant frequencies. - Make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible.
